Raise your hand if you ever owned or wore one of these....... Ok, I'll admit I did, although mine was not quite that ornate. I'm pretty sure I got mine using skeeball tickets on the Jersey shore.
It's Monday and most people....well.....struggle on Monday's. In fact, many start struggling with Monday long about 6pm on Sunday. So what color would your mood ring be today? Pretty sure I'd have the most putrid brown that stone could get. Of course I shouldn't say that because, honestly, I don't remember what the colors mean. Ok....if brown means I'm down and grumpy then that's what it would be. Remind me to find a chart to decipher the colors....
Mood rings were invented in New York in 1975 and were all the rage in the late 70's. Does anyone out there still have one? If not, guess what, you can still buy them. Anyway, they say the crystals and quartz inside the stone change structure and therefore color based on your body temperature. Do they actually work? Don't know. I guess we have to decide that.
Ah ha! here is a pretty decent color chart (although a tad fuzzy in spots):
It would appear that this post has, well, absolutely nothing to do with BigMouth Scrappers but hey....you can always use the words in the color chart for journaling inspiration? Or am I stretching it too far?
Have a great week everyone! Monday is almost over.....
Most of you have probably seen my email announcing our new designer, Gena Glover!
We are so fortunate that she has decided to spread her wings and teach at BMS - her first class is already coming up on July 7th! Welcome, Gena! I sent an email a few days ago with her class information. I'll get it put up on the website after I finish this post. If you didn't see the email, check your junk/spam folders and then email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want it resent. It's an altered cigar box and it's cute with a capitol Q!.
Many of you know that after a few years of ups and downs, my daughter is expecting. I have a granddaughter coming in August! Like most of you, I couldn't bear the idea of store bought shower invitations. As important as my daughter Liz is to me, I had to do something special. So I designed an invitation:
Maybe not the greatest picture but you get the idea. Therm-o-web foiling, Tonic foil sheets, embossing, die cutting, etc. I love how it turned out, especially since it's designed to lay flat for mailing. I only hope the recipients get that you have to open it up in to a box......? I didn't think 25 invitations was a lot.....until now. With the help of my BMS family, I've been working on prepping these for a WEEK. Just today I finished all the little pieces and parts and started to construct the boxes. I have 5 blank boxes and a gazillion little pieces so far. So, my friends, how many times have you said "What was I thinking?" LOL.
Still, even though it's a lot of work it's out of love. I have just one child and one grand baby so I just want it to be nice.....and Liz is the most gracious and grateful recipient I know.
So this is my week ahead!
What are ya'll working on?
Lots of Love,
Happy Sunday everyone! Lots of activity in the store right now. We just finished firming up our calendar for the rest of the year and we're super excited!
Many of you have expressed the wish to learn how to make this artist trading block:
This is Dyan Reaveley inspired and uses her paints, spray inks, and stamps. The class is Saturday August 20 and is only $30! We provide everything for you to go home with a completed block. Please bring a craft mat and if you have favorite coloring tools bring those too (pens or pencils or both!)
Lastly, don't forget we are launching both of our journaling classes on August 27. Michelle will have bible journaling at 9 and I start journaling at 2.
Have a happy week everyone!
If you missed Dyan last weekend.....well I'm sorry to say you missed an amazing time!! She is one of my favorite artists and instructors and as always she did not disappoint!
Because Dyan is about empowerment we decided that we wanted to keep that spirit going. So a monthly journaling class has been born. Join me starting in August!! We will start with Dyan and her amazing products and then explore other techniques and mediums. I'm so excited about this! Sooo many things I want to share with you.
Speaking of journaling, Michelle is starting bible journaling in August as well! In most cases, Michelle's class and mine will be on the same day.... Hers in the morning and mine in the afternoon. A full day of fun and creativity!
We are working on updating our class calendar but in the meantime watch your email and the website for information.
Cannonball!! Oh I'm in so much trouble for posting this but could NOT resist! Pam.......hahaha.......'nuff said!
As you know we have a guest designer in house this weekend (squeal!). The most excellent Sherri Timmons is spending this weekend sharing some of her many talents, tricks, and tips. Today we learned some art journal techniques I hadn't thought of so I'm a happy girl 👏 If you are a bible journaler watch us for more information! Thanks ,Sherri, for elevating our knowledge and pumping us up. And thanks for all the goodies you gave us all too!! Fun fun fun.
Last but not least, thank you Cynthia for hosting everyone at your house and in your pool! We laughed and laughed!
Until next time!
Woot! Michelle is in the house today!
We are already working on something super cool for the 2016 end of year holidays! It's a secret but I promise you - you won't want to miss this one. So stay tuned for more information!
Have a great week!!
Good Morning and happy Sunday 😀. We had another wonderful weekend in the shop and a big shout out to our "retreaters". Ya'll made these last few days so much fun and you are all now my friends ❤️. Can't wait to see you again!
So if you don't already know this (shame on you where have you been 😉) Cynthia is a very proud Nana! Among her jewels she has twin grandsons, Jack and Oliver. Oh goodness are they easy to get attached to. Jack won't talk to me yet, however, he will gladly back himself up to the wall and say cheese for me. Oliver says my name and melts my heart. He also lays face down on the floor when he's upset. That's ok Oliver, I do that too sometimes. So with all that said these two boys are the OFFICIAL Fishermen of Big Mouth Scrappers. They come to the store a lot so you're bound to meet them and love them as much as we do.
See getting his picture was easy like I mentioned before. Oliver, however......
Well..... I chased him around the store half the time calling him the wrong name. No wonder he wouldn't pose for me! So you can't see his adorable face here but what I love about this picture is that he has a large paintbrush in his hand and he ran with it to Cynthia. She scooped him up and this is what I got!
So if you don't already know the Fishermen you do now! Our official mascots... Our wish for you is that you always feel free to create and express without inhibition and that you always see artful expression as an invaluable asset in life. Well, that's our wish for everyone really.
All my love to you!
My sincere apologies for being AWOL! Some of you may know that Pam and I just got back from Philadelphia last weekend. My hometown :) I got to see my baby girl, Liz, and be with precious family if for only a short time. Here is a pic with Liz and Pam:
So now we're back and it's time to do something with all those pics! Ideas?
Ok, so enough about me (ha). Every time I walk back in to the store I see something new so if you haven't been in a while I'll race you to it! Tomorrow I'll be teaching the second portion of our "Tim Tag" technique class at 11:30. Would love to see you! I also have room available in the third and final tag class so drop a comment here, PM me on Facebook, call the store, etc if you are interested.
Remember that Dyan Reaveley is coming in July (smitten) and sign up for the three classes being offered that weekend. We simply could not offer every class Dyan teaches soooo Cynthia thought it would be fun if we could do our own rendition of those two classes. I made up the samples and they are in the store :). And last but not least if you have those Dylusions sprays but forget how to use them, I'm teaching a refresher course for you. Dyan does a quick review but if you want more than that I highly suggest coming to see me in class!
Emily is hard at work emailing you to keep you informed of class dates, new product, and so on but you can always check out the rest of the website or call us as well.
I think that's all I have for now folks. Oh wait. One more thing. I came back this week and saw that we have some new awesome chairs in our crop room! Thank you, Cynthia!
Hey, how was your weekend? Mine was....well.....cathartic. Anytime I get lots of studio time is fantastic! I'll have several pictures to share with you all this week. I finished a few projects over the weekend AND I'm trying to reorganize my space (with the help of Emily extraordinaire). Stay tuned for more info! In the meantime, come and see me at Big Mouth! I'm super excited about all of the new products we have - and the ones that are on the way! Cynthia and Emily have been HARD at work reorganizing the store to make room for new things, and to make it easier for you to find what you're looking for. Don't forget to like us on Facebook and check back here often (so that I don't have to talk to myself all the time).
Have a happy week......
